The Almond Blossom pouch - Bordeaux - By Haneen project - Nablus - Palestine

deep red / multi colour embroidery
This beautiful piece is hand-stitched with two motifs. The almond blossoms are inspired by the almond tree groves, and the amulet motif comes from the Bashmir area, south of Hebron.

This pouch can be used as a make-up bag or a clutch.

The Haneen Project was established in 2007 in the Balata refugee camp, Nablus. This initiative was formed by a group of women who use their skills in handicraft production to create a sustainable source of income and address the financial needs of families striving to provide food, education, and care for their loved ones.

The Arabic name, Haneen (meaning 'longing'), symbolises the refugees’ yearning for their ancestral homeland and cultural heritage.

Haneen's skilled embroiderers create distinctive, beautiful products. They use a wide array of stitching techniques in addition to cross-stitching and incorporate unique regional materials like Syrian satin or Hebron leather into their designs. Experimenting with techniques and new designs makes them stand out from other groups.

Balata is the largest of the 19 Palestinian refugee camps in the West Bank. Its 22,000 residents face severe overcrowding, poor infrastructure, poverty, and violence.
